Theme Essay

An underlying theme that I was trying to explore was: Can Virtual Worlds be a creative outlet? For some, Virtual Worlds can be a way to bond with friends, and for others they can be a way to escape their everyday realities, but one thing that is similar between all players is that they all, in some way, use their games as a creative outlet. I chose these 3 worlds because they were all created by males. I felt like it was an interesting take because it typically seems as if men have a hard time expressing their creativity and emotions, so I wanted to see if virtual worlds could possibly be one way they are able to explore and express their creativity. It is nice to see the diverse types of male perspectives and personalities throughout each world and refreshing to see how extremely different they all are. I think that the personality and creative thinking of each creator shows through each of their worlds.

Visiting this home reminded me of old times because I see a lot of personality through this virtual world. I enjoy World #1 because it has a lot of structure but it’s so nice to see that this was created based off of someone’s creative thoughts and ideas. Learning things from scratch and figuring them out as you go. Then to be able to eventually being build such a large intricate building. It’s genius. It is a safe world people can retreat and enjoy themselves in. Virtual worlds allow the player to clear their mind for a while and just be creative and have fun. You can see the dedication that the creator had because of how nice the buildup is and how carefully detailed it is. I can tell that this was made with a lot of creativity and cool ideas that most likely wouldn’t be able to be expressed elsewhere.

Something that I found interesting about this Island is that I am able to tell that this world was newly created. I can see the creative personality of the creator though the style of clothes he chose to dress his character and by the way his house is decorated. Something interesting is that this Island has only been made in two weeks. Personally, I think that the progress is good for the amount of time spent on it. It is interesting to see all of the neutral colors in the house and how the color scheme is very similar through out each room, and matches the personality of the character.

What I found interesting was how advanced this world is. World #2 only has two rooms that are lightly decorated. World #3 has 5 rooms that are very decorated. You can tell how experienced this person is because of how much they have built up. It is nice to see that this person is able to get creative and enjoy themselves in another reality during these tough times. It is interesting that I am able to see my friends personality through his virtual home above. His home seems very authentic to himself yet so creative and different from a lot of homes I’ve seen.
